Beale Street and T-SHIRTS!!!

YO!

Well we got back from Beale Street in one piece. One hell of a weekend. We met great CharacterJohnny and Belle and Dondi and Shawn and Pat and the guy from Long Island who got his MBA and Law Degree in the same 3 years of school. Great people, great blues, great street, and great time. We wrote a song on the drive back because we were so inspired and excited. We are going back to Memphis soon. But back in Minneapolis...

Apollo is keeping busy up here in the Midwest. They play this Thursday at the 400 Bar on the West Bank in Minneapolis. The 400 Bar is located on the corner of Cedar and Riverside Avenue. It's a $5 cover, $7 if you're under 21, and the music begins at 8pm with apollo on at 9ish.

But apollo has exciting new T-SHIRTS!!! Designed Sina Almassi & Co. in Cincinnati, we are proud as parents to present our new t-shirts. They'll be available at the 400 Bar on Thursday for the first time. Swing by and get yours!

Hope to see you out on the scene.

Up Your Indie Cred,

A Wild Weekend

Thanks to all of you who came out to both Blarney on Friday and the Red Sea Bar on Saturday with Piggies In The Hoosegow! It was one wicked weekend. You can see pictures from both days on the gig pics page. Up next, Dan, Al and Dave are driving 12 hours down to Memphis to play at the International Blues Challenge with 9-year-old blues guitar prodigy Tallan "T-Man" Latz! Things just keep on rollin'.

Good lord.

Hello all,

We'd like to first wish you all a happy new year. Hopefully you haven't broken your resolutions yet. Man we do we have some juicy updates for you guys. A lot has happened in our world since last semester.

On the docket, some news that doesn't pertain exactly to apollo. Dave, Dan, and Alex have been asked to be the rhythm section for 9 year-old blues guitar prodigy, Tallan "T-Man" Latz. Already having made a name for himself in the blues world, the apollo boys are joining Tallan down on Beale St. in Memphis where he was asked to play in their International Blues Challenge the first weekend in February. In addition to this show, the boys were featured on the Rachel Ray Show Wednesday, January 22nd. The producers for the show did a piece on Tallan and filmed their rehearsal together. And for those in the area, the quartet will be playing an hour long Memphis fundraiser show in Grafton, Wisconsin Saturday, Janurary 24th. For those skeptical of little Tallan, google his name. You'll see what's up.

Now on to apollo things. We have a whole host of shows lined up already for this semster. All the details can be viewed on the shows page here on the site. We'll be kicking off the semester with a two-day stint at Blarney then the Red Sea Club on Friday 1/30 and Saturday 1/31 respectively. What's even more exciting about these shows is that our good friends the Jeanna Salzer Trio are joining us at Blarney and Alex's funk-a-licious band from high school Piggies in the Hoosegow will be joining us at the Red Sea Club. These are events you will want to be seen at. Because you have to be seen to be scene (For those unfamiliar, "scene" is fairly synonymous with indie).

Well that's about it for now. Make sure to check back here regularly as our schedule fills up rapidly. Also, be on the lookout for some demo recordings of our brand news songs featuring (finally) the entire cast of apollo. Good luck with the start of the new semester!

Two More Tacks

Hey guys,
As we promised, we have uploaded two new songs to "The Big Cedar Sessions" called "Maps" and "Down at the Crossroads." These are totally free songs so we hope that you all download and share with your friends. Also, just a reminder about our Halloween show, this Friday, at our house. Details can be found on the shows page here on the site. This is not a show to miss. Enjoy the new songs and hopefully we'll see you Friday!

The Big Cedar Sessions and Firefly Lullaby

Hey y'all,

Coming off of last night's show at the 400 Bar on the West Bank, we wanted to say hey to all of you. In case you missed it, there was a Zombie Pub Crawl last night along Cedar Avenue. Everyone was hungry for brains and looked bloody and possessed. We kicked off at 10 and rocked out to some new originals for an hour. Thanks to those of you who made it out, it was a bumpin' time. Check out all the gig pictures here on the gig pics page.

In other news, we are pumped to release some new tunes to you online. Over Summer '08, we went up to the Wickert lake house on Big Cedar Lake in West Bend and recorded a whole batch of David's folk-sy songs. We went after the most organic sound we could capture, really attempting to record performances instead of isolated takes.

The end result is the eight songs on "The Big Cedar Sessions".

We will be releasing these tunes gradually over the next four weeks. Every Sunday night, we'll post two new songs to the growing album tracklist until all 8 are posted by mid-November. And if you're lucky, we might post a couple covers we recorded too. (Don't tell the RIAA...)

In addition to these recordings, we are releasing a new acoustic single called "Firefly Lullaby" that can also be found on the music page here on the site.

Also, a new show in the makings to put on your radar. We've been offered to play at Blarney's in Dinkytown on Friday, November 21st. We will be playing three, count them, three 45 minute sets. More details to come on this marathon show.

Have a happy Monday and please browse around for all your updates on shows, free music, band member blogs (Dan's is really funny), and local Minneapolis music.

Take care. Stay classy.

October Things

Hello everybody,

As the weather starts to cool off, apollo's show schedule is starting to heat up. (That was the corniest opening line I could possibly think of). We actually do have quite a busy month ahead in terms of performances. All of the details surrounding our shows can be viewed from our convenient "shows" page here on the site, but I'll outline the month for 'yall here. This Friday the 10th apollo will be playing, sans eye-candy/funk train conductor Alex, an acoustic set at the West Bank's annual Artsmosis event. The following weekend on Saturday the 18th we'll be headlining the lovely 400 Bar over on the West Bank as well. The weekend following that, on Friday the 24th, apollo can be found at an SAE party down on good 'ol frat row. And finally, the following Friday, the 31st, Holloween, we will be hosting a house concert/party/frightfest/girls dressing inappropriately event right here in our very own basement. This will definitely be one to mark down on your calandars. Details for all these performances can be found on the shows page here. That's all for us for now. Good luck on mid-terms and register to vote!

apollo in the fall

Hello all,

I hope the transition back to school has been going swimmingly. apollo has been hard at work getting some gigs around the Twin Cities area and beyond. All shows will be posted here on our shows page and we will be utilizing the free-time vacuum that is Facebook as well to keep you all in the loop. Hopefully you can all make it out to see us. Also, in an attempt to create a website with more dynamic content that will keep 'yall coming back, we thought it might be cool for each of us to have our own little blog journal thing. These can be found on our individual bios & journals page. These will be used for writing things about the band and things that have nothing to do with the band or music whatsoever. So we're gonna try this out. Hopefully we will be diligent in writing on these. Please comment away to let us know your thoughts or if you just would like to talk some shit about us. That's all to report for now on our end. See you all on the scene and go out and vote in November!

Love,

apollo
